Need to drill a brick wall, breeze block, or soft stone to hang a shelf?
A standard screwdriver lacks power for masonry. You need a hammer drill. Its rapid impact mechanism (vibration) helps the bit bite into hard materials. It's the ideal tool for solid unreinforced walls, where a large rotary hammer would be too heavy and imprecise.
With Poppins, drill without forcing. Our app aggregates available stock for the first time: drills from your neighbors, offers from hardware stores, and fleets from professional rental companies. The result? You find the machine adapted to your wall just steps away.
Where can I find a hammer drill quickly?
Although Poppins covers the entire country of France, you have a 95% chance of finding a device within 15 minutes of your location if you live in Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux, Nantes, Lille, Toulouse, or Marseille. In these cities, the density of our network (neighbors + partner retailers) guarantees immediate choice.
Is it worth buying a hammer drill?
The math is simple. For a few holes a year, buying a brand-name machine isn't profitable. Renting allows you to get pro gear (more precise, less chuck wobble) for the price of a coffee.
On the Poppins app, you will find hammer drills for standard masonry. To drill brick, plaster, or breeze block, a corded or cordless hammer drill offered by a neighbor is perfect.Warning: for very hard vibrated concrete or granite, percussion is not enough. You will need to rent a rotary hammer (available from our pro partners).
Which hammer drill should I choose?
On the Poppins app, the choice depends on your wall:
- Cordless Hammer Drill: Sufficient for hollow brick and block. Very maneuverable.
- Corded Hammer Drill (700W+): More torque. For solid brick and soft stone. Doesn't stall.
- Rotary Hammer: If your wall resists the hammer drill, it's reinforced concrete. Switch to the "Rotary Hammer" category.
